How pixelation changes a region
Pixelation replaces fine detail with larger blocks of color. It produces a deliberately coarse appearance that differs from the smooth softness of blur. This editor applies the effect inside a rectangle that you select manually, while retaining the rest of the composition.
Choose a source and drag over the relevant region. You can also specify percentage coordinates, which is useful for keyboard input or matching a known area. X and Y locate the top-left corner, and width and height determine how far the region extends.
Choosing the size of the blocks
The strength control affects how coarsely the selected area is sampled. Larger blocks retain fewer visual details, but they can still reveal the overall outline, color, or shape of the original content. A setting that looks strong on a small preview may leave more information visible in the full-resolution output.
Inspect the downloaded image at its intended display size as well as at full size. Check whether the effect covers the entire object. Fine details at the edge of the selection can remain unchanged even when the center looks heavily pixelated.
Pixelation is a visual effect, not guaranteed anonymity
A pixelated face or line of text may still be recognizable from its remaining structure or surrounding context. Do not rely on the block effect to remove sensitive information securely. A stronger-looking mosaic is not proof that the content cannot be inferred.
Use the solid fill option when the selected content needs to be covered rather than stylized. Fill the whole region and review the exported image for anything left outside it. The editor does not automatically find other identifying details elsewhere in the picture.
Saving the effect in a useful format
PNG can preserve the block boundaries without adding another lossy encoding step. JPEG may use fewer bytes for a photograph but can soften block edges and introduce artifacts. WebP is another option if the receiving software accepts it.
The current tool applies one rectangular edit at a time. To work on a separate region, save the result and use it as the next source. Use PNG for intermediate copies when you want to avoid repeated JPEG encoding; keep the unedited original independently.

Why can I still recognize the pixelated object?
Pixelation reduces fine detail but preserves broad shapes and color relationships. Surrounding context can also identify an object. Use a complete solid cover or remove the region when actual concealment is required.
Will the whole image become pixelated?
Only the selected rectangle receives the block effect. The exported image is then encoded in your chosen format, which can affect quality outside the rectangle if you choose lossy JPEG or WebP.
