Working toward 1KB
Test an extreme 1KB PDF limit. PDF overhead can exceed this allowance; measure the result and see when the target cannot be met.
Is a 1KB PDF realistic?
At 1KB, PDF structure alone can consume much of the budget. A multi-page scan is unlikely to fit while remaining readable. This tool reports an unmet target instead of claiming success.
What scan compression removes
Flattening loses searchable text, selectable text, form fields, links, tags, layers, and digital signatures. It is limited to 20 pages. Keep the original, especially for accessible, signed, or editable documents.
How the target is calculated
The tool treats 1KB as 1000 bytes, using the stricter decimal convention. A service that counts 1KB as 1,024 bytes allows 1024 bytes. Check the downloaded byte count against the receiving service’s rules.
One budget for the whole document
For a five-page document, a 1KB total limit leaves an average of 0.2KB per page before PDF overhead. At ten pages, that becomes 0.1KB. These are planning figures, not estimates of what this compressor can achieve. Check whether all pages are required before choosing such a limit.
Planning a document around 1KB
Even a blank PDF needs objects describing the document and its page. A 1KB limit is therefore a feasibility check, not a sensible target for a typical scan. If this number came from a form, verify that the instruction did not mean 1MB. Flattening readable text into a tiny image can make the document unusable.
Try selecting a word in your usual PDF reader. Selectable text suggests at least some document text is stored separately from page images, although OCR can also add text over a scan. The distinction matters because structural optimization preserves that representation, while scan mode creates new page images.
Structure optimization versus scan compression
Structure optimization rewrites PDF objects using compact storage where possible. It does not turn each page into an image or promise to reduce embedded photographs. An already optimized source may show little saving, in which case the original is retained if the new file would be larger.
Scan compression renders each page, encodes that rendering as a JPEG, and builds a new PDF. It can reduce image-heavy sources, but the output is a flattened document. Select this mode only after deciding that losing the original document features is acceptable.

A worked 1KB budget
Consider an original of 2MB, or 2,000KB. Reaching 1KB requires a reduction of 99.95%. That can be realistic for some redundant documents and unrealistic for others. This is a calculation of the requested saving, not a claim that the compressor will achieve it.
With four pages, the 1KB ceiling averages 0.25KB per page before PDF structure. With eight pages, the average falls to 0.125KB. Those averages help expose an overly restrictive request, but individual pages do not divide the budget evenly.
Check readability and document features separately
After processing, download the file and inspect it in your normal PDF reader. Check the page count and orientation, then examine small text, punctuation, tables, and diagrams. A full-page thumbnail can look clear while hiding letters that become difficult to distinguish at a useful reading size.
A visually similar PDF may still behave differently. Try selecting text, opening a needed link, or interacting with a form field if those features matter. Scan mode cannot preserve them. For signed or accessible documents, keep the source and avoid replacing it with an unverified compressed copy.
When compression cannot meet the limit
If the tool reports that 1KB was not reached, the downloaded file has not magically satisfied that requirement. Check the exact bytes. Try an appropriately smaller source export or ask the recipient whether a larger allowance is available. Do not keep lowering scan detail once the essential information stops being readable.
Encrypted or damaged PDFs are rejected rather than silently processed. Scan mode is limited to twenty pages. This application does not provide password removal, OCR, page deletion, or automatic document compliance checks.

Why does the download sometimes contain my original PDF?
If the attempted output is larger than the source, the tool returns the original and labels that choice. This prevents a compression workflow from replacing a smaller file with a larger one.
